The international conference “When Materials Meet. Intermateriality in the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Period” took place from 2–4 March 2026 at the Haus der Regionen in Krems an der Donau, Austria. Bringing together scholars from a wide range of disciplines and countries, the conference explored current approaches to intermateriality and fostered stimulating discussions on the interactions of different materials in medieval and early modern contexts. The event provided an inspiring forum for academic exchange and strengthened international networks in this emerging field of research.
Those who were unable to attend the conference, or who wish to revisit its key discussions, can now read the conference report by Anna Vierlinger, which offers a comprehensive overview of the presentations, debates, and main findings. An edited volume featuring selected contributions from the conference is currently in preparation and will further develop the questions and perspectives raised during the event.
