Two lecture series in the summer semester of 2026 offered insights into IMAREAL’s research perspective on intermateriality: In the series “Hülle. Materialität | Medialität | Wirkung. Organische Oberflächen in der Vormoderne,” organized by the Division of Older German Literature at Goethe University Frankfurt, Isabella Nicka spoke on “Holzoberflächen im Blick – Intermateriale Aushandlungen im Bild” (1 June 2026) and Heike Schlie on “Körper, Hülle, Martyrium und Strafe – Über die Kleider von Heiligen” (22 June 2026). Schlie also presented her research on intermateriality in the talk “I don’t know if I should say unicorn. Intermaterial Identities around 1500” on 10 June 2026 in Vienna as part of the lecture series “Theorising Materiality – Materialising Theory,” organized by the Institute of Conservation–Restoration at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, the Department of Art History at the University of Vienna, and The Courtauld Institute, London.
